511 landless persons allotted 5 marla plots across J&K, over 2,500 applications rejected: Govt | KNO

Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that it has provided five marlas of land each to 511 landless persons across the Union Territory for construction of houses, while 2,568 applications under the scheme were rejected on various grounds. In response a query, the government, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a total of 234 beneficiaries in Kashmir and 277 in Jammu division were allotted land free of cost. Bandipora district tops the list with 109 beneficiaries, followed by Baramulla with 61 and Anantnag with 30. In the Jammu division, Rajouri records 48 allotments, Doda 68 and Kishtwar 55,while Shopian, Budgam and Ramban has no allotments, ot said. The government said that 2,568 applicants were denied land allotment under the same scheme. "The highest number of rejections, 1,245, came from Rajouri district, followed by Anantnag with 286, Ramban with 162 and Udhampur with 146". Reasons for rejection included applicants not fulfilling eligibility criteria, possessing existing residential land, residing in forest or Rakhs and Farms areas, or owning more than five marlas of land already," it said—(KNO)
